Summer is coming and, as we all know, Madrid has a lot of good things to offer, but the beach is not its strong point. Even so, from SGR we want you to take a breath of fresh air and relax because we bring you the solution… If you have to spend the summer in the capital and the only place you have to cool off is the bathtub, we present you the best natural places to take a bath in Madrid!
San Juan Swamp
This is the best known reservoir in the Community of Madrid. It was built in 1955 in the southwest of Madrid and it is considered “Madrid’s beach”. It is the only one in the region where you will be allowed to take a bath and where you can also enjoy motorised water activities.
It has 14 kilometres of “beach”, including its left bank (“lancha de San Yelmo”) and right bank (“Cerro de San Esteban”). If in addition to bathing you also want to do other activities, the most recommended areas are “la Virgen de la Nueva” and “El Muro”, where you will find beach bars and boat rental services.
The Berceas
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Las Berceas natural swimming pools have a limited capacity of 2000 people. These pools are located within the Parque Recreativo de Las Berceas, in Cercedilla.
Going to spend the day at these natural pools is a perfect plan, as you can access with food and drink. However, it is important to note that you cannot go with animals.
Admission costs €6 per adult, although at weekends the price rises to €7.
Alberche Beach
50 kilometres from Madrid, in the municipality of Aldea del Fresno, we find the Alberche river beach. The beach is linked to the village by a pedestrian walkway and also has a picnic area.
It is called a “beach” because there is a large sandy area next to the water where you can sunbathe on your towel… Nothing to envy the Caribbean!
As an added value, the entrance to this “beach” in Madrid is completely free. You will just have to pay for parking in the car park. This service costs approximately €3.5 per day.
Pools of La Puebla de la Sierra
Although they are also known as the Pozas de Berrueco, these natural pools are located in Puebla de la Sierra. This village is in the heart of the Sierra Norte de Madrid, 95 kilometres from the capital.
Access is completely free and we recommend that you wear the right footwear for this type of natural spot.
We’re sure you’re looking forward to go to any of the best natural places to go swimming in Madrid … Anything to cool off a bit and get out of the heat of the capital! We encourage you to do so and share your posts with us on social media with the hashtag #StudentsGlobalRelocation.
