Madrid is a cosmopolitan city that welcomes thousands of people from all over the world every year. In recent years, the Spanish capital has seen a significant increase in the number of foreigners arriving to study, work, or simply enjoy the city. According to recent data, more than 250,000 foreigners reside in Madrid, and each year, more than 40,000 international students come to improve their Spanish while experiencing the local culture.

‍

One of the most effective and fun ways to improve your Spanish is by attending bars that host language exchange events. These places offer a relaxed and friendly environment where you can talk with locals and other learners while enjoying a drink. Below, we present some of the best bars in Madrid to practice Spanish.

‍

Language Exchange Madrid

‍

This free event takes place at the historic La Fontana de Oro tavern, located at Calle Victoria 1, just a few steps from Puerta del Sol. Every Thursday from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM, locals and foreigners gather to practice different languages, including Spanish. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people and improve your language skills in a lively atmosphere.

‍

Beer Station

‍

With decor inspired by an old train station, this international pub is known for its wide selection of beers and vibrant atmosphere. In addition to hosting live concerts and stand-up comedy shows, it organizes language exchanges on Thursdays from 10:00 PM and Sundays from 7:30 PM. This is an ideal spot to socialize and improve your Spanish in a fun and engaging way.

‍

The Irish Rover

‍

Located near Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, this Irish pub is a meeting point for language lovers. Besides screening sports events and live music performances, it hosts the AFTERWORK English Club twice a month on Tuesdays from 8:00 PM. While it's primarily focused on improving English, you’ll also find many opportunities to have conversations in Spanish with attendees from various nationalities.

‍

Lola 09

‍

Situated in the heart of Chueca, this cozy and unique bar is home to language exchanges organized by Tandem Madrid. Every Wednesday from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM, people from all over the world gather here to practice Spanish and other languages in a relaxed and friendly environment. Entry is free, and no reservations are required.

‍

Carmencita

‍

Near the Noviciado metro station, you can join a language exchange every Tuesday evening and practice different languages. Additionally, you can enjoy Bellinis for just €1 and an excellent dinner menu that will surprise you. If good food and great people make you happy, this is the perfect place to practice languages!

‍

El Estudio

‍

Every Tuesday from 9:00 PM, at El Estudio bar, located in the La Latina neighborhood (Calle Costanilla de San Pedro, 9), you can meet new and interesting people who want to learn and perfect their Spanish. Here, each participant receives a tag indicating their language level so they can find a conversation partner with a similar proficiency. This cozy bar also offers small beers (cañas) for just €2, and Servando, the group’s organizer, will be there to welcome you with open arms!

‍

‍

If you're in Madrid and want to improve your Spanish while meeting new people, these bars are ideal places to do so in a fun and effective way. Whether in an Irish pub or a traditional Spanish tavern, there will always be a spot where you can practice the language and immerse yourself in Madrid's vibrant lifestyle.
